Optional machining reference

Plan a machining blank.

For a part intended for CNC machining: compare starting stock around its finished envelope. This is not needed to start a design conversation.

Plan a machining blank

Start with the finished outside dimensions. Add only the extra stock you have chosen to discuss. “Not sure yet” stays an open question in your brief.

If undecided, we show the finished envelope only and keep the allowance unresolved. That envelope is not a purchase size.

How the arithmetic works

Blank dimension = finished dimension + 2 × chosen allowance. Rectangular volume = length × width × thickness. Mass in kg = volume in mm³ × density in g/cm³ ÷ 1,000,000. Quantity multiplies blank mass. No holes or pockets are subtracted. Supplier densities are source-matched references; exact grade and certified lot values still belong in the purchase requirements.
